My Mount Rushmore

 Flipping through my book of life (which is more of a scrap book than a diary with entries made now and then with some moments which are blurred by time) that I realized; each one of these are made of just me (the accompanying people make a pretty background that enhances my texture) and all of it has become a part of my present existence (to sculpt me into who I am).

 

                         And so, picking up a few would be injustice to the rest and hence here I am sharing some fun facts about me which would help you carve me out:

 

1.     I am an only child and my parents are my biggest strength. I know for a fact that they’ll stand by me in face of any adversary. I rely on them a LOT.


2.     I cried in my senior kinder garden class because I expected the strict teacher to hit me on my knuckles for dropping my pencil down. (She wasn’t that cruel to do that) The upside was - she introduced me to my first best friend whose name rhymed with mine. We were pen-pals for a very long time after I shifted town. I have had three more best friends after that.


3.     I have had spectacles on my eyes from a very early age (6yrs) and used to hate wearing them. (psst…I still do.) I used to get teased for it by kids of my age.


4.     I used to love dancing and had taken up Bharatnatyam lessons in my school days. I had also joined karate classes which I left before learning any self-defense tricks.


5.     I am socially awkward most of the times and always think twice before speaking. I make up for it by being a great listener.


6.     I am foodie, a romantic, pluviophile and lot of other things that aren’t coming to mind.


7.     I am in a “not yet published” zone when it comes to writing. I came across LJ Idol by fluke and I enjoy the process of creating stories out of nothing.


8.     I have gone Scuba diving on my honeymoon and though I was terrified at the beginning it ended up being FUN. I still can’t swim to save my life. Nor do I know how to ride a bicycle or a bike.


9.     I enjoy long walks and good company. Books are the best gift you can give me, I am a voracious reader.


10.I Cos-played as Gru last year in comic con with my new family (cousins and hubby). Presently we are honing our green thumbs and trying to grow organic veggies (Chilies are the easiest to grow).


11.  I am a dentist by profession and I love designing smiles. It been a decade since I passed out of dental college and that really makes me feel old.


12. I have dated, got my heart broken once.  And now am happily married to a guy with a great sense of humor who played last season as “devilz_workshop”. I have black hairs which are turning grey, brown eyes, relatively fair skin for an Indian.

Thank you kindly :) The first paragraph is the only thing which is from the original draft...I kept toying with a lot of ideas (fiction/non-fiction) and finally thought of sharing the four best moments of my life and as you can see I couldn't decide on that either :P :D

I didn't know you were a dentist! Or that devilz_workshop was your husband. I enjoyed his entries last season, and yes-- the humor!

I always hated glasses, and was so happy to get contact lenses. They made such a difference, not only in appearance but in how "connected" I felt to the world (I had terrible eyesight, and everything in the peripheral area was vague and made me _feel_ vague).

The idea of scuba diving scares me, though I think it would be neat. But it would be super scary if you weren't much of a swimmer! I don't know how you overcame that.

It's nice to know more about you! You have a sweet spirit, and I've enjoyed getting to know you through Idol. :)

I really enjoyed reading this. You have a very calm, pleasant writing voice. I also think we have a lot in common! I am also a pluviophile (and live near Seattle, so that works out!), think about things a lot (love your username), and am a romantic. You have things in common with my son, too - being an only child, and having glasses from a young age. He got his first pair at 4 years old, so I think he got my side of the family's eye issues. I personally only got reading glasses in college, then was told to wear them full time starting about 4 years ago. My 3 brothers, though, all wore glasses from 6 or 7 years old. That's amazing you're a dentist. I like the idea of designing smiles! That's a wonderful way to see your work!!

Such a fun way to get to know you better, and it's very true that we're the products of so many small moments, factors, and relationships. I really like the idea of the reader overtly being given permission to sculpt the details into a coherent image, as that's what we always do. Very clever!

I can't believe you're a Dentist! I was an Expanded Duties Dental Assistant for 25years! I had to stop because my tremors became to hard to control. I loved it.

Ah! Yes..it a long hidden secret from idol ...I wasn't sure whether I wanted to share it(or most of the personal stuff) when I started out in Idol (a new environment) and I know some people in RL who hate dentist for drilling their tooth and torturing them ;) So, now that I feel welcomed here and know you all ..I am just opening up :)

Will let devilz_workshop know that :) I am sure he'll be happy to hear that. His sense of humor is what attracted me to him :D I tried getting him on for this season..but his work schedule has just gone erratic and will be so for a while.

Oh yeah! I tried contact lenses for sometime and enjoyed the freedom till I got a eye infection and had to revert back to glasses. And now haven't really gone back to wearing lenses. I wear my glasses while working and reading (rest of the times I am probably squinting :P)

Scuba diving was a hell of an experience and you'll love it once you do it. I initially was scared but the instructor who accompanied me was actually good and he told me "we'll come up anytime you want me to quit, you just signal it to me." And once underwater I was too mesmerized to even think about fear :) Psst..I emptied the oxygen tank I was carrying along :D

Hey...Thanks! It's good to have company and yeah we might actually click with all the things we have in common :) I think I got my eyesight problem from my dad but he also passed on his reading habit along with it ;)

There are so many things that we do as dentist but I really enjoy the designing smile part..it gives me utmost satisfaction and the look on the patient's face in the end is the reward I can't explain through words.

Gru cosplay was indeed fun and it was the first time I attempted something like this :) (All the cousins, hubby and me were up all night to make costumes)
